What is that?

It’s Jaguar’s most daring move: an all-electric SUV, the first reliable competitor to Tesla’s luxury EV dominance, a car that outperforms its German competitors on the market, and a radical design. I-Pace signals the start of something big, which major manufacturers, not just Silicon Valley or emerging BMWs, want to invest properly in building new electric cars that you really want to own and may be able to afford.

The highlights are as follows: I-Pace uses two concentric electric motors, one on each axle for permanent all-wheel drive, producing 394 horsepower and 513 pounds of torque, which are transmitted through a single-speed gearbox. The lithium-ion battery, laid underground – precisely these days – has a volume of 90 kWh, which is good for an alleged range of 298 miles in the new, stricter WLTP cycle. That’s a lot to take in, and that’s before you wonder if you have a suitable place to plug it in or if the limited range is in keeping with your lifestyle.

It’s easy to forget that the I-Pace is just a new car: four wheels, steering wheel, and seats surrounded by aluminum and glass. If someone wants to persuade at least £ 58,500 (after the government grant of £ 4,500), or £ 76,995 for a fully loaded first edition, they still have to go, stop, point and spin. Heads with skill.
